** Handmaiden Quilts * Crafted with Care, Powered by Prayer
Welcome to the website for Handmaiden Quilts. This is a small ministry crafting one-of-a-kind quality quilts for the glory of God. I specialize in smallish quilts, and love making quilts for dogs and cats. They are SO appreciative of a cozy place to lay thier little heads! May I make one for you? Please note that I don't carry inventory, but make quilts on consignment only. The quilts you see here are for example only. Contact me at phxhocking@yahoo.com
A bit about me: I am a published author and part-time proofreader. I am passionate about animal welfare and social justice issues.. I have been a Weight Watcher leader, a quiltmaker, a massage therapist and a pharmacy technician. I enjoy reading, writing, baking, traveling, my dog, photography and a little tv. I have 2 daughters, 2 stepsons, and 10 grandchildren. I have worked as a volunteer fire-fighter, a waitress, a sexual assault and domestic violence counselor, a CPR and First Aid instructor, a keypunch operator, emergency medical technician, and a volunteer prison visitor.
This quilt is a twin-size and is made for the daughter of a friend of mine. While you can't really tell from the photo, the novelty fabric is of cats, frogs and fish. The "picture frame" blocks each have an image of the novelty critters. It's really cute in person!
This quilt is called "Flowers of Friendship." It measures approximately 53"x65". It was made as a going-away present for my neighbors Paula and Brian. Wishing them God's blessings, wherever He may take them. "The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." Isaiah 58:11
Fishies, Froggies, Felines and FUN!" This is a baby size quilt and has the cutest novelty fabric. I am giving this quilt to Gail Berk, our dog behaviorist and trainer. She is AWESOME and has helped us so much with our doggies. Thanks, Gail!
This quilt is named "Candle at the Crossroads." It is a basic log cabin pattern, with the squares positioned to show the cross. The yellow center of a log cabin quilt signifies a candle in the window and was used in the Underground Railroad to show that this was a safe house. This quilt covers a twin size bed nicely. I gave it to Paula to give to her daughter's in-laws as a going-away present.
